Camp at Home

Good morning to you all, as you may know we have taken some inspiration from the Scouts and we want to actively encourage you all to take part in Camp at Home.

This week our challenge is to set up camp. This can be as big and creative as you and your family like. You can go all traditional with a tent or for more fun create your own tent.

Activity 1

Tent building.

Option 1

As we have said this can be as traditional as you like or even go creative as we know it may be hard to build a tent for some as they don’t have the space or even a tent but we have some ideas for that.

If you do have a tent you pick a safe space either in your house or your garden to pitch your tent go ahead and get started follow the instructions with your tent and get help from someone if you need it.

The scouts have this great group activity you can use as a family to learn more about your tent, Teamwork Tents

And then Tent Tales which is all about pitching your tent

Option 2

Making your own tent, this could be more fun and can be very simple to being quite complex forts.

For a basic indoor tent all you need is a bed sheet to use as the tent, get someone to help set it up you could put one edge of the sheet at the top of your couch and get something like a book or that to hold down the opposite edge just make sure you leave a big enough gap to get in to your tent.

Another great more creative idea is to build a pillow fort.

Option 3

We understand that you may not have space to make a big tent up indoors, or if you can it can only be up for a short time so we have came up with this options which everyone can do and it’s a great craft style activity.

For this you just need a sheet of paper and first fold in half, best way is portrait then fold the top edge down to the middle line and repeat for the bottom edge. Now you have a basic paper tent that you can colour and design how you like. Your who,e family could make their own tents and have a mini camp.

So we have our tents ready at camp but something is missing…..how do we keep warm?

Activity 2

Camp fire

Ok everyone before you panic we are not building a real fire we have two ideas to make your own safe camp fire that you will find fun.

Option 1

You will need

  • Red, orange and yellow tissue paper cut into small pieces (1cm to 2cm squares) lightly scrunch them
  • Plastic cup
  • Glue
  • A4 paper
  • LED Tealight Candle
  • A4 paper
  • Colouring in pens
  • Twigs or brown paper strips.

First get your A4 paper and cup, place cup in centre of paper and the n draw around it with a pen, set the paper to the side for now.

Then get your cup, tissue paper and glue. Start to cover the cup in the tissue paper using the glue. Set this to the side to dry.

On the paper around where you drew your cup start to draw in sticks and rocks for the base of your fire (if you want you could get some small twigs and use them or use brown paper strips)

Once done and your cup is dry get your LED Tealight switch it on and place it in middle of the paper and place cup over it.

Option 2

This is a bit bigger and a bit more messy as we need some paints and paper, first draw your camp fire out then paint it. It can be as neat or as messy as you like.

Now we have our tents and our safe camp fire…….but still something is missing……..

Activity 3

Hot Chocolate

We know this is a favourite of most of our scouts at 1st Raploch Scouts. This will need some adult help and supervision but after all your hard work a hot chocolate is well deserved for all of you.

All you need is a mug, hot chocolate powder, milk, squirty cream and marshmallows.

We suggest using your mug to measure out some milk and then put the mug of milk into a saucepan get your adult helper to hear it up and then add the hot chocolate powder. Mix well and then your adult helper can put it in your mug. You can then add marshmallows and squirty cream.

You can also make it even easier and put some hot chocolate powder in your mug then with help from an adult add hot water from the kettle and mix well. Then you can add marshmallows and squirty cream.

Now we have our tent, our safe camp fire and hot chocolate we can sit back and relax maybe read a story or talk about our week.

We hope you all enjoy these activities over the next few days and please remember not only to share them with us but share them using the #campathome tag so others taking part across the country can see your efforts.

Now, we know you will want to share your pictures, drawings, crafts and even puzzles with us. If you do please take a photo of them and post them on the Raploch Connected Facebook Group.
