Welcome back to our Women in the Bible series where we have been meeting some of the Women who are in the Bible, this week we are meeting The Good Woman
The Good Woman or the Proverbs 31 woman
Biblical women had some unusual qualities that aren’t always picked up in Bible Stories. We often picture good women as being submissive and sweet. But the Bible uses the following words to describe them:
The women mentioned may well have shown these qualities. But in reading their stories, I am more inclined to see strength, leadership, daring, persistence, industry, innovativeness, and individuality.
These characteristics are as worthy of imitation as the more traditionally feminine ones. Characteristics such as being:
- Financially independent — This is an interesting one, considering the many laws that governed women in Old Testament times. Proverbs 31 woman “considers a field, and buys it,” showing her business abilities.
- Home Working — She produces a variety of goods at home, and sells and trades wisely.
- Well-Dressed — Though generally thrifty and generous to the poor, she is dressed in silk and “purple,” an expensive colour used primarily by royalty in Biblical times. ‘Power-dressing’ as it was known in the ‘80s
- Physically fit — or, maybe she just got those strong arms by working the loom until all hours of the night!
You can print off the colouring in activity below or if you want you can get creative and draw your own picture.
This activity you can draw some of the Women in the middle.
Now, we know you will want to share your pictures, drawings, crafts and even puzzles with us. If you do please take a photo of them and post them on the Raploch Connected Facebook Group.
