Call to Worship

HOSANNA!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

The King of Israel!

John 12:13

Opening Prayer

God of the cross riding down the streets of Jerusalem on a donkey,
You are not the saviour we expected,
Your power doesn't look like the power we want our God to have,
Your wisdom makes no sense to us
We're happy to join the crowd waving branches but not so sure we want to follow you through this full holly week into the temple courts, into the upper room, into the garden of Gethsemane, to the high priests house, to the assembly of elders, to Pilate, to Herod, to the place of the skull, to the foot of the cross.
Father God we need you to go with us on this journey grant us clear vision, courageous hearts, persistant steps, even thouh we know what this week will bring,
We join with the crowds and sing Hosanna!, Hosanna! And so father as we gather on this Palm Sunday to proclaim the entrance of your son Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as we have our Palm branches let us join together and say the words your son thought us

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors
lead us not into temptation,
and deliver us from evil,
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
forever.
AMEN

Our first hymn was All glory Laud and honour

Reading, Matthew 21:1-11

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, ‘Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.’
This took place to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet:
‘Say to Daughter Zion,
“See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”’
The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’
‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’
‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, ‘Who is this?’
11 The crowds answered, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.’

Palm Branch Craft

Why do you need the newspaper, sticky tape and scissors?

Yep we got a little bit crafty during the service.

Just incase you missed the instructions it is really simple

  1. Take 1 sheet of newspaper (or normal paper) roll it to about half way and add another sheet of newspaper, roll that to half way and add the third sheet of newspaper and then finish rolling into a tube.
  2. Use the sticky tape to stick the end down and secure the tube.
  3. Take your scissors and from one end of the paper tube make 5 cuts down the length of the tube around 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches).
  4. Now try to pull out the centre piece to extend your Palm branch and fan out the cut ends

This is how it should look.

Prayers for others

Father God
We continue to pray for all who are suffering around the world, especially in our own nation and our own community,
We pray for those for whom Corona virus has turned their lives upside down.
Father we now that for all of us today things have changed massively in the last two or three weeks, we can't go and visit our loved ones, we can only go to the shops when we absolutely need too.
We can't do the things we've so taken for granted.
But Lord in many ways our suffering is mild compared to many others,
We pray for those who have loved ones due to Corona virus, those whose loved ones are currently suffering and in hospital, including folk we know.
So Lord be with all those who's lives have been turned upside down, wether to for medical reasons, financial reasons or emotional reasons.
Father God we continue to pray for all our medical staff and all those working on the front line in this country. Who Would have thought a few weeks ago those working in supermarkets, those driving delivery lorries would become so vital to our well being.
Lord, we do thank you for the spirit of community which has arisen within this nation and we do hold in our prayers all who working in whatever jobs they happen to be that are keeping everything moving within our society at the moment,
And Lord God we pray for countries around the world who will be dealing with threat of Coronavirus, and who maybe not as well equipped as we are in this country, those who do not have an established health service, those countries which are short of doctors, nurses and medical supplies.
Lord we are always aware of the inequalities in your world, this is no less true today.
Father we pray for our church within this country we thank you that so many churches have responded so well to the challenge of Coronavirus wether helpimg in their local communities wether changing to worshiping online as we are doing today.
Lord God you send us many challenges to deal with but in every challenge there is an opportunity and we thank you for the opportunity that you have sent us to reach out through technology to so many more people.
And finally, Lord we pray for our own immediate communities where ever we happen to be today, not just here in Stirling but all the other places represented, Northern Ireland, the Borders, Doune, Menstrie, and many others.
So Lord let us join together for a few moments of silence and bring before you our prayers for those known to us who arw in need

Father God, you hear all the prayers of our hearts both the ones which we have spoken this morning and those which remain unspoken we offer all of these prayers in the name of your son and our Lord Jesus Christ
Amen
